A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING MR. WILLIAM D. SONES FOR SERVING AS PRESIDENT OF THE INDEPENDENT BANKERS ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA FROM MARCH 1997 TO MARCH 1998.

WHEREAS, Mr. William D. Sones, a resident of Brookhaven, Mississippi, served as President of the Independent Bankers Association of America from March 1997 to March 1998; and

WHEREAS, after graduating from Eupora High School, Mr. Sones attended Mississippi State University, then Mississippi College where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Sones also graduated from the Mississippi School of Banking at the University of Mississippi and the Commercial Lending School at the University of Oklahoma; and

WHEREAS, currently, Mr. Sones is Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of the State Bank and Trust Company and the State Capital Corporation and President of the Ole Brook Finance Company; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Sones has served in various leadership roles in several professional organizations including President of the Mississippi Business Finance Corporation, former Vice-Chairman of the Independent Bankers Political Action Committee; former Trustee of the Mississippi School of Banking, former Director and Executive Committee Member of the Certified Development Corporation and former President of the Mississippi Young Bankers; and

WHEREAS, actively involved in his community, Mr. Sones participates in various groups such as the Brookhaven-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Lincoln County, Brookhaven Beautiful and the Brookhaven Kiwanis Breakfast Club; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Sones has been supported in all his endeavors by his lovely wife, Theresa, and their children, Sunday, Sicily, Bill, Ben and Sam; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend outstanding businessmen, such as Mr. William D. Sones, whose leadership and community involvement exemplifies the characteristics of an excellent businessman:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mr. William D. Sones for serving as President of the Independent Bankers Association of America from March 1997 to March 1998 and extend to him our heartiest wishes for success in all his future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. William D. Sones and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
